Cruising to the Bahamas

Good morning y'all!! Well today we are going to go to some warmer weather and look back on my most recent vacation to the Bahamas! Timmy and I just got back from a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas with some of our closest friends and let me tell you was it fun and eventful!

Timmy and I have been wanting to go on a cruise for a very long time, it was even on my  101 in 1001 list, but we also wanted to take a vacation with a group of friends so we thought a cruise would be perfect! We started planning this cruise back in June or July and found some really good deals with Carnival; I have never cruised with Carnival and I will be honest I think I will be sticking with Royal Caribbean. But for the price, it was so worth it - I think Timmy and I spent like $1400 for the two of us for 5 days with alcohol and food and board.

We cruised on Carnival Ecstasy, on the outside doesn't look too new but it was pretty on the inside, out of Charleston, SC.

We boarded the ship on a Monday and went home on the next Saturday, it was the perfect length of time I think. Not too long and not too short. I have been on 7 day cruises in the past and it was too long for me! We went with a group of 6 people, 3 girls and 3 boys, although Timmy and I were the only couple.

The first day we boarded we just hung out around at the top deck and waited to sail, started off with some adult beverages and had a blast the first night getting to know other people on the cruise.

The next morning Timmy and I of course were the first ones up so we headed to the breakfast buffet grabbed breakfast and found some pool chairs for the day. This was our first day at sea and I wasn't sure how packed the pool would be so I got what I thought would be a good spot, well turns out 2 hours later after the pool was packed the sun went behind us and we were in the shade...I learned my lesson that day.

That night on the ship was our formal night, so it was fun to get everyone dressed up. But these cruises really need to reconsider having their formal night on the first day at sea because I am not going to lie, we sure did enjoy our day at see with some beverages.

We ended the night with a comedy show on the boat and went to the casino and the club. At night after 10:30 pretty much the only things to do on the ship was go to the club or the Casino. I think we went to the club almost every night, now I didn't dance every night but I sure got a lot of people watching in!

The third day we arrived in Nassau, Bahamas! I was so excited to finally be off the boat and see some of the island! Timmy and I have been to Nassau before at the  Atlantis in 2012 but we never left the resort. Our goal that day was to find a beach and relax and enjoy the Bahama life and we did just that!

We actually found a beach not far from the port that was the perfect spot for us!! We went to  Junkanoo Beach and found the coolest Tiki bar called  Tiki Bikini Hut.  We walked up and they were telling us of all these great deals for food and drink and chairs, $25 for a lounge chair all day with unlimited liquor drinks. I thought it was fake because that sounds like amazing to me - well turns out it wasn't fake and those drinks had a lot of liquor in them!

We spent the whole day lounging on the beach, listening to music and having the best time! The staff there was so friendly and upbeat! They had so many games and entertainment to make sure their guests had a good time!

That night we did the same thing, went to dinner, hit up the casino then the club. But I think this was the night I went to bed by about 10:30 while majority of the group went out. Laying out in the sun all day with endless drinks will get ya.

Our next day was our last and final stop in the Bahamas, Freeport. Now I had not really heard good things about Freeport and everyone was a little weary going out of port for this one so luckily there was a Fat Tuesday's and Senor Frogs right at the port!

We spent the day majority at Senor Frogs and had a blast! They had so much stuff going on you didn't want to leave to get back on the ship! Unfortunately when we got back on the ship and met up with some of the people we had met they all said they had a great day off the port and at the beaches in Freeport! Even though we had so much fun at Senor Frogs, if I ever go back I will definitely have to find those beaches!

So this was the fourth night and the night we were all going to go hard and stay out late! (We didn't want to stay out late the last night because we had to get up early). So we got cute, all went to dinner as a group (this was the first time we had done that since the formal night). We all had so much fun that night, we went to another comedy show, watched one of our friends loose their money in the casino and then danced the night away at the club!

The last morning we didn't wake up quite as early but we made sure to get some chairs on the top deck where the sun wouldn't leave from for our last day at sea. Brittany and I enjoyed a few margaritas and regretted not getting them earlier in the trip! We all hung out with everyone we met throughout the trip and hated we were heading back to NC with 20 degree weather!

We ended the night at the top deck where we started the trip and went to bed super early, well Timmy and I did. We did not want to be tired on the 4 hour drive home the next day!

Well, until our next vacation! Which I have already started planning!! But this time it will be a vacation for just Timmy and I. Vacationing with friends is a lot of fun but it is hard to set time apart for just the two of us.

  5. I have never been on a cruise through Royal Caribbean. I've heard mixed reviews about them. I love the Bahamas! It's been about a year since I went. I agree that 7 days is a bit much for a cruise. Glad you had a great time!

  6. Cruises are the best...the absolute best! I went on my first one just after I turned 16, and I remember I got a Bahama Mama (my first "real" alcoholic drink) in the Bahamas. Let's just say that I felt more than sea sick later that night! I can't wait to go on another cruise (the last one i went on, I was pregnant, so sadly no drinking for me).
