Food Porn: Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen

A few weeks back we tried  Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen in downtown Raleigh for the very first time! Timmy and I had seen it multiple times but had never actually tried the food; we have been to the bar there many times - it is actually connected to the hotel where we stayed for our wedding and our  anniversary! So we were excited when my best friend said that was where she wanted to go for dinner on her birthday!

Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen

Type of Food: Southern Comfort Food
Price: $7 - $35
Address: 500 Fayetteville Street Raleigh, NC

I dare you to go take a look at the  menu and not have your mouth watering after reading it. Seriously everything on the menu looks delicious and I had a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to eat. Ultimately I picked the Rye BBQ Potato that encompassed everything I was wanting - their potato and their BBQ.

Do you see how big that potato is! The Rye BBQ Potato was a house smoked pork and chicken on top of a huge potato with aged cheddar cheese and sour cream. It was amazing! The only complaint was that the BBQ was the ketchup based, I am a vinegar BBQ type of girl but nonetheless it was still absolutely scrumptious! My meal also came with two sides! I got the mac and cheese and the baked beans that were their special that night. I wish I could have gotten to eat more of the mac and cheese but I was just too stuffed from the potato but from the little I had of the mac and cheese it was so good! They have an entree that is just solely their mac and cheese and I think I will be getting that the next we go there!

Everyone really enjoyed their meals, Timmy got the Chicken Pot Pie and couldn't stop raving about it! My friend also tried one of the desserts, Spiced Apple Midnight Moon Shine Funnel Cake, and I was really kicking myself for not trying a bite!! It smelled like the NC State Fair!

We had a group of about 15 so it did take a little longer that we hoped, but at a nice restaurant like that and with that many people it is a good thing the food takes a long time. I also really enjoyed the setting of the restaurant, it was very rustic and calming! If you are ever in Raleigh and need a restaurant idea - definitely put this one into the mix!
