Engagement Photo Tips

It has about two years since we had our engagement photos taken; we are coming up on our 1 year anniversary and have scheduled our 1 year anniversary shoot for the beginning of November! I am so excited, but let's be honest it can also be very nerving to get in front of a camera and show off your love for your significant other. But what are some tips to consider before you even get in front of the camera? I have come up with some points I thought were most important!

one // to do them or not?
First step is do you even want to take engagement photos? I know plenty of couples who have not gotten engagement photos taken and guess what they are still married. It was no question for us, I absolutely love photos and making albums so we were going to have them. And we also had never had any professional photos taken of us before so it was nice to have some good photos other than iPhone photos.

two // don't switch it up
Whoever you use as your photographer for your engagement photos, I highly recommend using them for your wedding. It will give you a chance to get to know your photographer and vice versa. But if you aren't sure just book the engagement and let the photographer know if things go well you would like to book them for the wedding as well. Some photographers will be OK with that, but I will say if you book them both at the same time you usually don't have to pay for engagement photos or pay a lot less.

three //  location
Make sure you pick a location that you both like. If you are beach people, take them at the beach. We took ours at Meredith College, where I graduated from. Although it didn't really have much sentimental meaning to Timmy he liked the idea of them there because we did it during the fall and he really wanted the fall colors to show.

four // try to meet your photographer before
We had never met our photographer before our engagement shoot so we were really nervous. But she was amazing and made us feel really comfortable right from the start.

five // pinterest
Pinterest has tons of ideas for photos for these types of shoots! But don't keep the board to yourself, share it with your photographer so they can know what type of shoot you are looking for and wanting!

six // printing rights
I can't stress this enough! Make sure you and your photographer are on the same page and request that you have printing rights and access to high resolution photos. If you book your engagement session along with your wedding photographs you may not get a contract for engagement session; so just be sure you have rights. If not you would have to individually purchase the photos you want and that can be rather expensive.

Are you planning on doing engagement photos?
