Bride Q & A: Lisa

The Wedding Series with past and future brides is back! And we have a special lady here today sharing her absolutely stunning wedding with us, Lisa from Showered with Design!

When did you get married?
We got married on a beautiful Saturday, July 12, 2014!

Tell us about the proposal!
Well, it was my husbands birthday, and I chose to take the day of work to spend with him.  We went to our local dog beach with our two fur babies and I noticed he was acting really weird.  He was about to tell me something and then stopped, and when I asked him what it was he said he forgot.  I joked with him, "How did you forget what you were just going to tell me?"  Then when he finally had the guts, he tossed me a Christmas paper wrapped box.  I was confused because it's his Birthday, why would he be getting me a gift.  Well once I opened it I realized what was happening.  He said a little speech and I don't even remember really what was said.  Mostly something along the lines of will you marry me?  Of course I said YES!

How did you choose your location for your wedding? What type of venue were you looking for?
I knew I wanted something close to the beach, but I did not want it on the beach. (I didn't want the dirty sand photos) I also knew I wanted our Ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all on the same property but with three different locations.  I chose something near local activities that would make it easy for out of town guests to venture to!

We chose a beautiful location close enough to smell the ocean air, and it was beautiful!

What was your favorite part of planning your wedding? I
loved getting together with our wedding planner and meeting all the prospective vendors.  I had fun planning all the little details (I am super detail oriented).

What was the hardest part of planning your wedding?
Probably finalizing the guest list and getting RSVPs back.  It was hard to keep the guest list at a certain number.  Plus ones really add up, so my advice is to invite the ones who HAVE to be invited first. (Ie: family, their plus ones) then go from there.  I know this is probably sad, but I got excited when guests RSVP'd that they were unable to attend, because that meant one less meal ($$$) and less worry if there were any last minute guests or plus ones that needed to be added!

Did you have any bad experiences with any of your vendors?
We didn't have any BAD experiences necessarily.  Other than the bar messed up on which drinks to stock (Like we wanted Bud light, versus Coors light..and they overcharged for wine but they ended up figuring it out and fixing it) Oh! Our photo booth ended up setting up late, and forgetting my wedding album for guests to sign next to their photo-strip, which I was ticked about, because that's the one thing I really wanted to have!

How many dresses did you try on before you found "THE ONE"?
I probably tried on about 10-13.  I tried on THE ONE, three times.  I just kept wanting to put it back on, it was so flattering.

How did you decide on your bridesmaid dresses?
I knew I didn't want the everyday boring bridesmaid dresses.  I wanted them to be vibrant and have bling on them.  We found exactly what I was looking for and they looked gorgeous in photos!

What is your best piece of advice for future brides?
Honestly the  entire day goes by so fast.  Don't fret about the little things.  This is your MOST memorable day, take it all in and enjoy it! Dance your booty off, have fun with your friends and family, and love your new husband like there's no tomorrow!

Thank you so much Lisa for sharing your wedding details with us! I am obsessed with your bridesmaid dresses!

I love this!! I have to agree with Lisa, the WORST part about wedding planning is the Guest list! I am not enjoying that part at all!!

Seriously, the guest list and getting RSVPs back was the worst. We had to call a few people, and even then, on the wedding day, 3 people never bothered to call us back, so we just prayed they didn't show up haha! I absolutely LOVE your dress, too, it is very flattering!!

I love that you thought about a venue that would be near to activities for out-of-town guests. Plus, who doesn't love the beach!?!

I agree the guest list is really stressful. We started with that to get it out of the way. We were also sure to choose a venue that ensured we wouldn't have room for more guests than we wanted.

I love this series! The guest list is for sure one of the most difficult parts about planning a wedding, that's one of the main reasons why we decided on a destination...easier to cut back on the guest list!

I have to agree with Lisa, the WORST part about wedding planning is the Guest list! My boyfriend and I have quite a few estranged family members and creating the guest list will not be an easy task, I am not going to be enjoying that part at all!! Aside from that, the photos are lovely! Congrats on your special day, Lisa!
