Tips for Waking Up Early to Exercise

We all want as much sleep as possible. But...we all want to be in shape right? Well with the warmer weather finally here I have started getting up about an hour earlier than usual and getting in a 2-3 mile walk. I don't run or power walk just walk for about 45 minutes with my little fur baby Bailey. It just seems to get me up and going for my day and it makes me feel better starting my day. And it helps me get my steps going on my FitBit. Since I have started getting up early almost every morning and walking I have seen a difference in how I feel throughout the day, on the days I don't get up and walk I am a lot more tired in the mornings. I know a 2-3 mile isn't much but it is better than nothing and my long and intense workouts are spent in the evening at the gym.

So you want to start walking in the morning? Here are some tips to help you get up and going.

1. Go ahead and lay out your clothes you are going to exercise in the night before. Or better yet, sleep in them.

2. Put your phone and/or alarm across the room - I don't do this because I can get out of bed pretty easy these days but for someone who might hit the snooze button this will get you going.

3. Get enough sleep. Don't try going to workout on 3 hours of sleep.

4. Have an upbeat playlist ready to go and put your headphones in immediately.

5. Have a water bottle all ready for you to drink a good amount right when you wake up.

6. Eat something. Even if it is something small like a piece of toast or a banana.

What do y'all do to get going in the mornings?

I tried early morning workouts for a week. I couldn't keep it up. Having an infant the energy to get up at 4:30 to get at least one hour in just doesn't always seem plausible. Maybe next year when we've almost reached toddler hood.

laying your clothes out is perfect! and i (try) and plan my whole day, it motivates me to know this is my workout time and the rest of the day is for more fun other things! xx

I wish I could get up in the morning and just start my workout. But I tend to do it right before I get in the shower.

Getting things ready the night before is huge for me! This helps me big time! Also, love your tip about keeping your alarm across the room. If I know I am going to have a hard time waking up this is a sure fire way to get me awake.

Uugghhhhh I need to follow this. I feel so so so much better when I'm exercising but once I fall off track it's months before I start again!
Keep motivating me so I will get my bum moving :)))

Helpful tips there! The phone tip will be really useful as I tend to snooze for like 10 times! And nothing better than morning workout! :)

Love these tips! I might try this tomorrow morning--lately I've been so tired in the morning and not even wanting to workout at night either!

Great tips girl! I struggle with fitting my workouts in as I'm not a morning person, but whenever I do workout first thing I feel fantastic the rest of the day :)

Great tips! I'm hoping to be cleared to exercise again in 2 weeks. It will be rough starting over again.

Great tips! These are definitely things my husband and I need to work on!

I so needed this. I literally set my alarm early each morning with the hopes of getting up to work out. It happens about 1/4 of the time..the snooze button ruins me!

I'm struggling to run now that it's hot. I'm up early but I haven't been making myself go out at 4:30 (it's light that early in Maine). I want coffee. Then it's getting too hot. Then I have another excuse. I'm going to use your tips and get myself going again. Thanks!

I am the WORST at getting up to exercise in the morning! I do much better if I have a exercise buddy that I know will be waiting to meet me. Encourages me to get up and going on time!

I NEED to figure this out! I feel like the only *free* time I have is in the morning.

I have a spotify playlist just for my morning walk. I have to get started too very early in the morning too and if I miss my morning walk it affects my mood for the rest of the day.

My boyfriend says I should work out in the mornings but I normally get up at 6:25, I can't imagine getting up any earlier. I might however try and get up 15min earlier to do some weights and see if I start to feel better.

I'm up at 4:45 every morning to get in my coffee and workout. =) Getting enough sleep is key! My motivation right now is "I need to get up NOW because otherwise my daughter will wake up and I won't have time for anything else!".

I have to get out the door before I'm even fully awake otherwise I won't. Sometimes I even sleep in my running clothes hahaha

We just started working on waking up earlier every other morning to go on bike rides before it gets too hot. Having our work out clothes right by the bed is super helpful!
