Our Anniversary Staycation

Last week Timmy and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary and decided to have a staycation. We had tossed around the idea of going back to Florida where we got  engaged or traveling to Asheville for a long weekend, but we ultimately decided to have a staycation in Raleigh.

But that still meant lots of decisions for us to make. We weren't sure if we wanted to get a hotel in downtown or just go home at the end of the night, but we decided since it was our anniversary we needed to splurge on ourselves.

Our actual anniversary fell on the Monday before Thanksgiving, so we stayed home grilled out steaks, drank our anniversary bottle of wine and indulged in some slices of our anniversary cake!

Our cake was absolutely delicious and just as I remembered it! We actually just finished it the other day! Since our anniversary fell on a Monday we decided to wait until the weekend to really celebrate and go out to dinner and enjoy our staycation in Raleigh.

We started our day off with a trip to the Science Museum in downtown until it was time to check into our hotel. We stayed at the Marriott in downtown Raleigh, the same hotel we stayed in on our wedding night. Once we checked in, we went upstairs to drop our bags off and hit the lobby bar for some pre-dinner cocktails.

Then we walked around downtown for a little and ended up at The Big Easy for another pre-dinner cocktail. Finally it was time to eat and we were starving. We made reservations at  Gravy, which is an Italian restaurant and it is delicious! We had only been there once before and were looking forward to the Risotto balls! We ended up getting the exact same meals we got the first time we went there!

After dinner, we tried to have a few more drinks but we were both so full and exhausted we were upstairs watching a movie by 10pm.

The next morning we had planned on getting Chickfila breakfast from the one right down from our hotel and eating it in the hotel room, but unfortunately it was closed to renovations so we ended up finding another one close by and enjoying that amazing breakfast! We stuck around downtown for a little, grabbed some coffee and sat outside on the rocking chairs while we waited for our friend and her son to get downtown to go ice skating!

In downtown Raleigh they have an outdoor ice skating rink set up where you can go ice skating! I have been wanting to do this for awhile now with Timmy, but last year the weather was so warm they had to close it. But this year I finally got Timmy to go and we had so much fun!

And that concluded the end of our anniversary celebration!! It was a great staycation and it was definitely something we needed!

It looks like you have an awesome staycation with your husband. That is great for it can strengthen your relationship with your husband. I have never tried ice skating. I wonder if I really can do it since we do not have snow in our own country. Anyway, I do hope one day that my boyfriend and I can do that too. :)
