Oak Island, North Carolina | 2018

I am back from one long weekend at the beach in North Carolina and I am truly exhausted! This past weekend 8 girls traveled to Oak Island, North Carolina to celebrate our best friend graduating Pharmacy school in May. I missed my pups and hubby, but our girls trip was so much fun!

We had originally started planning a trip for Brittany in January and had booked a house in Savannah, GA and had dinner reservations and so many things planned for our long weekend in Savannah...BUT on Wednesday (the day before we were leaving) our Airbnb house was cancelled and there were no other houses to book the day before. So after some freaking out and hours spent on the phone we changed the trip to Oak Island, NC. One of the girls going had a family member that had a 7 bedroom house that we could stay in. It wasn't Savannah, but boy did we have fun!

We left around lunch on Thursday and drove to Wilmington to grab lunch and walk around while we killed some time before heading to the house in Oak Island.

We made the 45 minute drive from Wilmington to Oak Island and met everyone else at a local bar until we could get into the house. Oak Island is a pretty small, quiet beach so in the off season there wasn't much to do but as you will see later we found things to do! Once we got to the house we ordered pizza, unpacked and played some games the rest of the night.

Friday we all got up and got ready for the day. Whitney had made breakfast casseroles for everyone so we ate those for breakfast and those definitely hit the spot! The plan for Friday was to go try out a brewery in Southport called Check Six Brewery and then go shopping in Southport. The brewery was small, but it was Friday during the day so we were pretty much the only ones there. We grabbed some lunch and tried some of their beers and then headed into downtown Southport to do some shopping.

I had never been to Southport before and was so excited to visit and see some of the places where Nicholas Sparks' movie, Safehaven, was filmed. We walked by the house the main character lived in and even got to grab a drink at Fishy Fishy where the other main character worked in the movie.

The views by the water were so pretty! Fishy Fishy was by the water, but luckily they had a inside where we could still enjoy the beachy views. Friday night, we got a cab to take us to Wilmington. We ate at ReelCafe, which was not good, but the live music after dinner was so we stayed there the entire night until it was time to make the trek back to Oak Island.

Saturday, was a little bit more relaxed. We woke up and slowly got ready for the day. We had all been craving Mexican so we found a mexican restaurant on Oak Island, filled our bellies and then found a little bar we wanted to try out that night so we stopped in to check out their menu. Then it was time to relax before dinner and our last night out. We went to dinner at Shagger Jacks on Oak Island and it was delicious! A lot better than the dinner we had Friday night. We ended the night at another local bar, Pirate's Deck, complete with a DJ and dancing! The perfect end to a wonderful girls weekend!

Sunday, was full of Netflix and cuddling with the pups! What did you do this weekend?

I want to travel North and South Carolina for the Nicholas Sparks movies and because it is the closest beaches for us. We did North Myrtle Beach a few years ago and loved it.
