Fiance Favorites

One week from tomorrow I will be marrying my best friend. I have dreamed of my wedding day since I was a little girl, back then I think I would marry anyone, now the man is the best part! These past four and a half years have been wonderful and tough at the same time. In honor of Timmy and I getting married in week I thought I would share with you all some of our my favorite memories together!

one.

The night I met Timmy! That night I had no idea the boy standing next to me would someday be my husband. We were just a bunch of college students drinking and having fun at a Tim McGraw concert.

two.

The night Timmy first told me he loved me, at the same spot where we first met. Although it was a rather short time between us meeting and our first "I love yous" (maybe 2 months), we knew we loved each other. We met at a Tim McGraw concert in June and then we went to a Rascal Flatts concert in late August and he told me loved me during God Bless the Broken Road.

three.

The first trip Timmy and I took with my family. We hit up the Bahamas for a Kenny Chesney concert. I knew my dad approved of him when he said "hey, bring Timmy to the Bahamas"

four.

My last formal at Meredith College. It was the only one Timmy and I attended and it was definitely a night none of us will ever forget.

five.

All of our NC State games we have attended. We love football, drinking beer, hanging out with friends and the fall weather!

six.

This was at my Dads house. Big Daddy Love came and played and we had a huge cook out with a band. It was a perfect day with family and friends.

seven.

The day I graduated college. Timmy had been by my side since the start of my Junior year and was there to support me and motivate me to get all my assignments done.

eight.

The first time we hiked 22.26 miles for Cystic Fibrosis! We learned a lot about each other that day and our relationship was strengthened.

nine.

The day Timmy proposed on that sunny day on the beach in Florida. This day to date was the best day of my life. I will never forget how nervous we both were!

ten.

Our first Thanksgiving together as an engaged couple. I knew things were really happening because my family let someone who wasn't blood come on our family Thanksgiving trip to Williamsburg, VA.

I can't wait to be Mrs. Stephenson!

Bridesmaid Dresses

Remember that thing I did at the very beginning of the year, go bridesmaid dress shopping? It seems so long ago and I realized I never fully dedicated a post to the dresses my girls picked out.

From the very beginning of the engagement I knew I didn't want all my girls to be wearing the exact same dress. I wanted a more modern take on the bridesmaid look and wanted everyone to be happy with the dress they were going to be wearing. So I just had a few requests - the dress had to be the same color Navy, it had to be floor length and it had to be Chiffon. Luckily almost everyone ended up picking out Bill Levkoff dresses and loved them!

Some girls picked one shoulder, some picked halter and some picked strapless. I love the look of all the different styles!

PS. 10 days away from the wedding!!

Tips for Planning a Wedding

Here is a photo of my fiance and I the day we got engaged in sunny Florida!

Being engaged is supposed to be one of the happiest times of your life and for me it has been. I have loved every minute of being engaged and sharing this wonderful experience with the people I care the most about. Today I am going to share with you some tips I have learned while planning my wedding!

1 // Take your time

I can't stress how nice it has been to have such a long engagement. Timothy and I got engaged in July of last year and will be getting married November of this year. That leaves us with a 16 month engagement. It has been wonderful! Taking our time really reduced the stress level and we have gotten the chance to really take some time with some of our big vendor decisions and have gotten to enjoy multiple parties so far without feeling overwhelmed, we had our Engagement Party in December and just recently had a Stock the Bar Engagement party. Never heard of a Stock the Bar Party? Well check out my brief description here and check out all the party details here. (Don't worry! We weren't stocking our bar for the wedding - we were stock the bar at our house!)
You only get to plan your wedding once, so don't let this magical time be a stressful time!

2 // Accept that you can't please everyone

This has been something tough for me, but I think I finally have it wrapped around my mind that this is mine and Timothy's day and not everyone is going to love the food, not everyone is going to love the flower arrangements on their table and not everyone is going to love the venue. But we do love all those things and that is what matters. I have had to learn to trust my vision of the day and not let anyone else's negative opinion make me change my mind. I have had to keep some stuff from some people because I know they will have something negative to say, so I will just let them be surprised on November 21, 2015.

3 // Ask your bridal party early / choose wisely

I can't stress to you how glad I am that this was one of the first things I did after being engaged! The Bridal Party is there to help you and the sooner you ask the sooner you have friends to help. My bridal party has been wonderful so far and have had very little drama, so I am thankful for that. Also, choosing your bridesmaids can be a very hard decision if you are a social butterfly and consider everyone your best friend. I have 9 bridesmaids. Yep 9. But it has been a great group of girls and I couldn't imagine planning this wedding without them. Timothy also has 9 groomsmen, they are a little more difficult to handle but we love each and every one of them. Choosing a bridal party is like setting the mood for your wedding - they need to be fun but also reliable. We have some drinkers in our bridal party but thankfully they all know how to handle themselves. You also don't want drama, that is the last thing you, as the bride, needs. More stress on top of the stress you are already having.

4 // Take one thing at a time

When I first got engaged, I was just so excited I started emailing any and every vendor I could find. Bad decision. I was flooded with emails and prices and I had only been engaged for a week. We had no idea the date we wanted, we had no idea the type of wedding we wanted and most importantly we had no idea what our budget was. After I immediately got stressed out, I decided to take one thing at a time. I had worked as an intern for a Wedding Planner while in college so I called her up and booked her! She then took me through the steps and we booked the venue, then the food, then the flowers, then the cake, then the linens and then went onto the smaller things. Focusing on one vendor at a time made it so much easier and made the process so much simpler. Tracy wouldn't let me move onto the next big vendor until I had the previous vendor booked. I loved the way we did it because it kept me keeping up with my budget and not getting overwhelmed. We have all the big vendors picked out now it is just time for the little things :)

5 // Hire a wedding planner

A wedding planner isn't for everyone, but I knew I was going to need one. The main reason I wanted a wedding planner was because I knew how amazing Tracy was at her job and I had seen her keep a bride and family completely calm when their tent caught on fire. The second reason I decided to hire a wedding planner is because I didn't have the wedding planner most brides have, their mom. My mom passed away almost a year ago and she had been saving and planning this wedding before Timothy popped the question. But hiring a wedding planner was the best decision I could have ever made because she has helped me so much and has given me some amazing suggestions about vendors and has really helped me keep everything moving right along. If any of you are in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area and are looking for a wedding planner - call Tracy!

6 // Guest List

This is what I am in the middle of right now. And it is pure torture. Our venue holds 185 guests, if everyone has a seat. We will be right at the 185. Scary. I know. But when both you and your fiance have a big family and one of your grandfathers is one of the best lawyers in North Carolina, the numbers can add up very quickly. I have learned some tips when putting together the guest list...

-Not everyone gets a date and that is fine. I have a lot of friends that are in and out of relationships with different people, so there comes a point when I have to just say no date for you. But most of those friends will also know almost everyone else at the wedding..so there is my reasoning why some/most of my friends will not be getting a plus one. And I am already having trouble with the guest count with people I actually know, I don't need to add some random guy my best friend met at the bar last weekend.

-Some people will say no. You will get some declines and you will (or at least I am thinking I will) have a little party in your head because that is one step closer to your actual number allowed at your venue. Sorry I am being totally honest - you wish everyone you knew could come but that isn't the case. Also, I learned that 20% of the guests you invite will decline. I hope this doesn't bite me in the butt because I am totally going off that being true right now. Right now I have 224 people being invited to our wedding, if 20% say they can't come that will leave us with 180 people at our wedding. 5 LESS THAN THE ALLOWANCE.

7 // Excel / Google Docs

I have a running list of all the things I need, all the guests address, each gift I have received, etc. It has been a life savior!

8 // Social Media

Social Media the crap out of your planning! I have loved getting to blog all about this wedding experience and instagramming all the photos. Also, come up with a good #hashtag for people to use at parties and your wedding. Ours is #TheChaseIsOver112115 becuause my last name is Chase. Having your friends use the #hashtag at your showers is great, so you can see all the pictures from those parties as well!

9 // Use the internet, but use it wisely

Pinterest can be great, but it can also be a mind blogging tool to use. I was all over Pinterest at the beginning, now I am trying to stay away from it as much as possible when it comes to the actual wedding because it messes up my entire vision. Of course I use it at some points but I try to limit myself to look at pictures that are based on my vision. Also, I signed up for the The Knot to help me keep track of certain things.

10 // Have fun

This is supposed to be one of the best moments of your life so enjoy this time with your fiance and watch how your love grows!

Why We Are Having a First Look

First looks. Some people like them, some people don't. We fall under the category of people who like them. Well I do, Timmy took a little convincing. But as soon as we knew we were going to be getting married at the Church I grew up in, I knew I wanted a first look.

I have my reasons as to why I want to have a first look. But these reasons are just little bonus add-ons that will make the day run smoother, but they are also some of the main reasons other couples have them; so let's get to those first.

Ugly Crying. I am going to be one disaster on my wedding day, or at least I think I am. So if I have a first look with just my fiance he and the photographer will be the only ones to see my ugly cries. Also, another bonus...I can quickly touch up my makeup. I wouldn't be touching up my makeup during the ceremony.

Intimidation. I am extremely intimidated of walking down the isle and all eyes being on me. The church where we are getting married the center aisle seems like it goes on forever! But at least if we have a first look I won't be freaking out about all the guests and my fiance. Just the guests.

Timeline. Everyone knows the day of the wedding you have a strict timeline. I love pictures so having a first look is going to give more time to take pictures before the ceremony and then after with the family and then more time to party at the reception.

Intimate. The setting is just you and your fiance, not you and everyone you invited. You can kiss him right away you don't have to wait until the officiant says you can.

Now for the biggest reason and most important reason to me and Timmy.

My mom. When my mom was alive she was Timmy and I's biggest supporter. I always dreamed of planning my wedding with my mom by my side and us arguing over the linens or the wedding colors. But, I didn't get to do any of that. My mom passed away a few months before Timmy and I got engaged. But she didn't need me to have a ring or have a ceremony or his last name for her to consider him her Son-in-Law, she already did.  My mom's ashes are in the Columbarium at the church I grew up in, which is also the Church Timmy and I are getting married at. FINGERS CROSSED...it doesn't rain, but that is where Timmy and I will see each other for the first time on our Wedding Day along with my mom.

Before I told Timmy the reasoning behind why I wanted a first look I couldn't convince him, but after we talked about where it would be and significance he was on board and was so excited that we were going to do it where my moms ashes were. It will be an emotional moment but it will be the most special first look for us.

Bridal Shower

This past Sunday I had my most perfect shower! One of my moms best friend, Melissa, hosted a Lilly Pulitzer themed shower in my honor! I have always loved Lilly Pulitzer so when she asked me what type of themed shower I wanted there was no question I wanted Lilly. Melissa went all out and planned almost everything while living in Florida! I am so appreciative to have her and her family in my life, they have truly been a blessing!

The shower was at North Hills at the Renaissance Hotel in one of their meeting rooms. When I walked into the room I was amazed at how Melissa had turned this room into Lilly Pulitzer heaven! There were pink and green linens, gorgeous pink flowers and a beautiful cake from Edible Art! We kept this shower to close family, family friends and the bridal party and it was such a lovely afternoon to get to spend with the lovely ladies!

When you first walked in there was a table with a notebook that each guest would fill out an advice card and then my sister would take a picture of them with a Polaroid. The binder was pink and green and the pages were so pretty and decorated and cut all by Melissa and her daughter Audrey. I love that they brought a Polaroid camera so they could take a picture of each guest and then tape it inside. I didn't get many photos with the guests so this will be a great memory of everyone who attended!

In the back of the room was the beautiful table with all the delicious food! We had tea sandwiches, hummus, fruit, cheese and orzo. The flower were done by Kelly Odom.

When you sat down you were surrounded by more pink and green! In the bottom picture you will see a bowl of some of Mamie Jo's delicious cheese straws! She is a close family friend and if you have ever seen or had the cheese straws sold in Raleigh at NOFO or in Chapel Hill at Southern Season, you know how delicious they are.

At each of the spots was a game sheet of Who Said It? And then a personalized pencil that said Ashley & Timmy Nov. 21, 2015

Then the best part of the shower was the cake. Melissa had it made by Edible Art and it was absolutely gorgeous and delicious! Edible Art is the same baker who is doing our wedding cake, so she got the same flavor! Melissa worked very hard to create the perfect cake for me. It was Lilly and the middle layer matched the invitation Lilly pattern.

Now here are some of the few pictures I did take :)

My sister, who we actually got into a Lilly dress!

Melissa, the wonderful hostess!

The lovely ladies that made all of this shower amazing!

Whitney, a bridesmaid.

Erin, a bridesmaid.

Leslie, my Maid of Honor.

Well, there you have it. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful shower!

Favor Time

Trying to come with up a Favor for our upcoming wedding has been stressful! I have been to some weddings where I am thinking to myself what am I supposed to do with this favor, and other weddings where I thought it was the cutest favor ever. I have looked to the world of Pinterest and have narrowed it down to some of my favorite Favor ideas. I won't tell you which one I picked, but it is one of these :) Guess you will just have to wait until after November 21 to find out :)

I am obsessed with Monograms, so this cookie I think would be perfect for our guests.

You may remember this post back in April, but I am still loving these favor box ideas! Who doesn't love a cute box with a sweet treat inside?

Macaroons...everyone loves Macaroons (well except me)
