St. Patrick's Day was this past Saturday and we spent the day with some of our best friends in downtown Raleigh celebrating and wear fun green T Shirts! This year St. Patrick's Day fell on a Saturday and there were tons of block parties and drink specials at all the local bars in downtown so we spent the whole day there!

Food Porn: Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen
A few weeks back we tried Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen in downtown Raleigh for the very first time! Timmy and I had seen it multiple times but had never actually tried the food; we have been to the bar there many times - it is actually connected to the hotel where we stayed for our wedding and our anniversary! So we were excited when my best friend said that was where she wanted to go for dinner on her birthday!

NYE 2016
We are on DAY SIX of 2017...can you believe it. I honestly can't. It seems like just yesterday I was graduating college in 2013. But time doesn't stand still and somehow we have begun 2017. And let me tell you, did we have fun ringing in the New Year!

Food Porn: The Pit
The Pit Authentic Barbecue
Type of Food; BBQ
Price: $11-30
Address: 328 W. Davie Street Raleigh, NC
Visit Website
I have been here 2 times and have yet to have a bad experience! Both times I have looked forward to eating there! It is in downtown Raleigh, so you can go out to dinner with friends then out on the town!
Parking: Parking is pretty bad wherever you go in Downtown Raleigh, so don't be shocked when you will have to circle the block a few times trying to find a spot. If you want to avoid that bring a few dollars in cash and Valet park your car. Unfortunately we did not know they had Valet and parked about 2 blocks down in the parking garage, but unfortunately we had to pay $3 for that as well.
Customer Service: Everyone was very nice. We went on a Friday night at about 6:30 and were seated right away (we only had 2 people) but by the time we were leaving an hour later there was a large amount of people waiting for tables. We had a few servers, which was nice but sometimes annoying because one would come and ask us if we needed anything and then 5 minutes later another server would ask us the same thing. But it was nice because it was always easy to get something pretty quickly if we did need something. Also, the table next to us got the wrong side item brought with their meal and they quickly fixed that mistake.
Food: If you are in the mood for some BBQ this is the place to go! When we went I had been wanting BBQ all week and was planning on grabbing a plate at Smithfield's before going home from work but my fiance said let's go to The Pit and boy am I glad we did!
They have a huge menu, so it might be a little overwhelming at first but take your time and look over everything before deciding what you want to get.
While you are waiting you can enjoy some DELICIOUS hush puppies and biscuits, which you will devour and need a second basket of.

Next comes the food you have been waiting for. Each place comes with 2 sides. I got the Pulled Pork with Mashed Potatoes and Mac-n-Cheese and Timmy got the Double Combo: chopped BBQ and brisket with mashed potatoes and Mac-n-Cheese. We both enjoyed our meals, especially the Mac-n-Cheese. Empire Eats is catering our wedding and The Pit happens to be one of their restaurants and the mac-n-cheese will definitely be at our wedding!
If you are ever in downtown Raleigh and looking for some good homestyle cooking, The Pit is definitely worth a try!

The Weekend I Went to Way TOO Many Bars
Saturday was the day we went to way too many bars...but it was so much fun!! We went to about 11 bars from about 3pm-11pm. Timmy, my dad, Brittany and I had so much fun and are planning another bar crawl...but not for awhile!
Before the bar crawl Friday night Timmy and I had date night. We went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Fuquay, Garibaldi Trattoria, where one of Timmy's best friends works on the weekends. We enjoyed some cocktails and a delicious meal full of carbs to prepare us for Saturday.
Saturday, I had to get up really early for the Time Warner Cable tech to come and install those adapters on the TVs without boxes. My plan was to go back to sleep after he left, but you know once you get up and moving it is hard to go back to sleep...so instead I went on a 6 mile walk. It was glorious and I was keeping a good pace..I was pretty proud of myself.
After Timmy and I ate a light snack and watched some TV and got ready, my dad was at the house and we were ready to crawl! We started at a bar and grill to get some food fuel and then hit Fayetteville Street. We bar hopped the rest of the day and into the night and before we knew it we were all ready/needed to go home. Friday, I had bought a selfie stick and I enjoyed it way too much. I love that thing! I don't care about the looks I get, it came in handy! We went to almost all the bars on the list - except 2 (The Hive & Downtown Slims) - we may have added in a few along the way but I think we did about 12 bars - we added Rum Runners and a place called Royals or something like that (it was next to the Architect). We all found some really cool bars we had never been to..and day drinking is so much better than going out downtown at night. We were actually able to sit at the bar or sit on the patio. Now...here are some photos from the day....
Right after Stop #1 and headed to the next stop
Wouldn't you say me and my dad look just alike?
This was the last photo I took and it is probably a good thing....
Sunday it was a much needed recovery day. Luckily the weather was great and Brittany and I laid out. It was so hot though so a fan was necessary. I don't know why I didn't think of it before but it seriously saved us from the heat.
How was yalls weekend??

Food Porn: The Busy Bee Cafe
The Busy Bee Cafe
Type of Food: a little bit of everything
Price: $5-20
Address: 225 S Wilmington St. Raleigh, NC 27601
Visit Website
I went to the Busy Bee Café for a Cystic Fibrosis meeting and really enjoyed it. It serves as a place to eat and a bar where people can gather for a get together and have a few drinks. They have a good menu - some appetizers, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees, side items, desserts and brunch on Sunday's.
The only thing I did not like about the Busy Bee Café was the fact that they don't serve the typical beers like Bud Light, Miller Lite, Michelob Ultra, etc. they are known for serving craft beers - since I am not a big beer drinker I was not a fan of their craft beers. However, I did enjoy some of their cocktails..my favorite was the "Queen Bee" (fitting right?) this drink was made up of New Amsterdam gin, St. Germain Elderflower, pineapple, sour, champagne - very delicious! While I was there I also tried the Loaded Tots with cheddar, bacon, sour cream and scallions--this was absolutely spectacular and was a great starter. For my main meal I had Caesar Salad but was very tempted to try the Loaded Tot Burger but since I am on trying to eat better thought that I should go with the salad - maybe next time I will try the burger!
Overall my experience at the Busy Bee was great - since we had a little private party we were upstairs in the mezzanine and had a little privacy away from the Thursday night bar crowd. I would recommend this place to anyone no matter what they were planning - a night out drinking with friends or a dinner with your significant other.
Please help me reach my goal of $2,500 by October to help fund the research for Cystic Fibrosis!! Click HERE to donate and click HERE to learn why I am raising $2,500!
