Hike Prep

So you all know I am going to be hiking with some family in this weekend for Cystic Fibrosis for the 2nd year [read about last years hike here]. 20 miles is a lot and I have to mentally and physically prepare myself for this hike. I am not quite as worried as I was last year but I am still nervous.

I have been "training" if you say for this hike pretty much all summer. Timothy will be doing the hike with me and we have gone on some hikes to prepare..but none like the one we will complete on Saturday. But training is not all you need to do in order to prepare for a hike...you need to have the right essentials as well!

Hiking Boots// First you will need some good shoes. They don't have to be hiking boots but those are probably going to be the best for long distances. Last year I even saw someone wearing those toe shoes..I am not sure how he made it 20+ miles. Not only do the shoes need to be comfortable but make sure they are in GOOD CONDITION.

*STORY TIME: Timothy made the mistake of wearing some of my dads old hiking boots (he didn't want to spend $100 on shoes) and within the first 1/2 mile one of the soles of his shoes came off. He was pretty much walking barefoot..since he was walking somewhat lopsided he decided to take the other sole off to make it even. Our first first aid stop was not for 7 miles...thankfully Timothy had packed an extra pair of shoes in the bag they took to each first aid stop...but he did have to walk soleless for 7 miles.

Hydration Packs// These things are a life savior. They are the backpacks with the water packet with the tube you can suck out of inside. You are going to need a backpack anyways so why not get one that will carry your water as well. I really enjoyed it because when I was so tired I didn't have to fumble around in my backpack looking for my water or hold it while I was walking, the tube just laid down my shoulder and when I was thirsty I would just suck out of the tube.

Snacks// Always pack more snacks than you think you will need! And pack snacks that will give you energy; you will eat a lot!

*STORY TIME: During our hike my go to snack were the Scooby Doo gummies! I had bought a box for Timothy and I to share (I think they came with 6 packets) and split them up in our backpacks and by the end of it I think I had eaten all mine and majority of Timothy's.

Extra Clothes// Always make sure you bring a pair of extra clothes and at least 2 pairs of extra socks! The weather could change on you or you could just sweat that much. Hiking in wet socks or clothes is one of the worst things ever.

TP // Don't forget the toilet paper!! You will have to pee outside in the woods and you want to be prepared. Last year I did not bring TP but luckily my aunt did.

First Aid// Hopefully nothing will happen to you while you are hiking, but always bring the standard first aid kit - bandaids, neosporin, ace bandage, poppable ice packets, advil, sting medicine, etc.

This should cover the basics of what you may need to go hiking...obviously you will need more items but these are the necessities that I found extremely important.

Also, don't forget about the promotion going on! Timothy and I have challenged ourselves to raise $5,000 for CF. Anyone who donates to our cause will receive ad spots equaling up to their donation amount OR will receive a free pair of STUDS from my Chloe + Isabel Boutique!! Please help us raise money for this awful disease!

Workout For Free

1 // Go Outside
There is no better gym than the open outdoors. I particularly love going on a walk or jog outside rather than paying for a ridiculously priced workout class.

2 // Youtube
The wonderful world of the Internet. Youtube has tons of workout videos that are free that can be done right in the comfort of your living room.

3 // Be Creative
When doing exercises that involve weights, get creative. Those few pounds of hamburger meat that need to be thawed out can be a great substitute for some light weights.

4 // Tracks
During the summer breaks, most of the tracks at schools will be empty, work on your interval training at the tracks.

5 // Stairs
You don't need an expensive stairmaster to work on climbing stairs...your house probably has a set of stairs and if not find the closest apartment complex and use those!

6 // Cycling
Cycling classes are one of the best forms of exercise classes to take, but why not try riding your bike throughout your neighborhood for a few hours?

7 // Trails
One of my favorite forms of exercise is hiking. Look for some hiking trails near you and enjoy some quality time with your family or some quality time with yourself.

8 //Yardwork
Believe it or not yardwork is some good exercise. Clearing out the woods, mowing the grass with a push mower, etc.

9 // Water Training
During the summer the pools and oceans are a great place to get some laps in and stay cool.

10 // Research
There are tons of great exercise plans out there that do cost money but are well worth it and don't have a monthly payment - I have been doing Kayla Itsines lately and I love it. There is also the famous Tone It Up series.

Fundraiser Tonight

Calling all my Raleigh bloggers!! Tonight at the Busy Bee Cafe in Downtown Raleigh a percentage of their sales will go towards Cystic Fibrosis. Last year Timothy and I hiked 22.26 miles in one day to raise money for CF. We are going to do it again in October and this percentage will go towards our goal of $5,000. My cousin has been living with CF since he was a baby and will always have to take dozens of pills a day and be hooked up to his vest twice a day to clear his lungs. If you are in the area please stop by!!

Also, don't forget about the AD PROMOTION I am doing. For any donation to Timmy and I's team, you will receive ad space for the amount of your donation!

Xtreme Hike Ad Promotion

Good Morning and I hope everyone's Tuesday is off to a great start! If you have been a reader of Girl Talk for quite some time now, then you know last October I hiked 20+ miles in support of Cystic Fibrosis. Well, it is that time again and I have began my training for another challenge both physically and mentally.

Last year our team, Hiking for Wells, took on the trails of Hanging Rock in NC and reached our fundraising goal. Overall the entire event raised around $40,000. Timothy and I raised around $5,100 of that!

This hike is to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. A disease that is very close to our family. My cousin who is 15 was diagnosed with CF when he was just a baby. Timothy and I will be hiking with my aunt and uncle along with some of their closest friends. Our goal as a team is to raise $30,000. Timothy and I each hope to raise $2,500 each.

We couldn't do this without the help of all of our supporters. Since I entered into the blogging world I have been blessed to have such a great support group from people all around the world. So, I wanted to give back to this amazing family I have gotten to know so well.

When a blogger donates to our cause, he or she will receive an Ad spot on Girl Talk reflecting their donation. If so and so donates $6.00, they will receive the Super Fabulous ad spot for an entire month for free. If they donate an amount that exceeds any of the ads, we will discuss which ads you would like.

Please share this email with any blogger you connect with. My main purpose is to grow awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and help the people that are diagnosed with this awful disease.

To donate, you can go to the link below(it is 100% safe). If you decide to donate, please make sure to email me after and let me know!

Thank you!!!
